Introduction to Motion Capture Performance Workshops


Designed for actors and performance artists, you'll learn how to hone your artist skills to balance perfectly with 21st century tech. By taking home your own Mocap Showreel you'll be ahead of the pack, ready to join the increasing demand for performers with the knowledge and experience of VFX, 360 filming and virtual production.
 
A collaboration between Ryan Mercier, of the acclaimed Met Film School, and Target3D, London's Home of Motion Capture, these Introduction to Motion Capture Performance Workshops are a melange of talent, knowledge sharing and upskilling.
 
A two day workshop in Hoxton, East London from 10am - 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. Small groups of 6-8 actors allowing for maximum input and practical time.

 Course outcomes

  • Introduction to motion capture and how it works

  • An introduction to playing in the volume, understanding of the language and processes used and how it applies to the performer.

  • An introduction to creating a character for motion capture.

  • Understanding what affects character and performance in motion capture and how you can create this environment.

  • Introduction to props used in motion capture and how to respond to each prop effectively in the volume.

  • Introduction to scene work in the volume.

  • Apply what is covered in the two days through a scene bespoke to the environment.

  • Receive the footage shot and tracked in the form of a showreel.

  • Automatic inclusion on the Target3D Talent Pool.


About the workshop leader


Ryan Mercier has been a professional actor & director for many years working in both Theatre and Film, training in the UK and and New York. His focus in training has been in the Meisner Technique and has further training in long form Improv. Most recently he has been working with Sky and Hammerhead to deliver a variety of characters for their new VR project. Ryan has starred in a number of Films including Angels in Nottinghill with the late Sir Christopher Lee, We Still Steal the Old Way and MLE. Ryan is one third of the popular podcast Theres a Film in That. Ryan is a course leader of acting for film at The Met Film School. He also tutors filmmaking students at Central Film School.
